Beatriz Ilari

Beatriz Ilari is an associate professor of music education at the University of Southern California (USC), where she teaches Music Psychology, Sociology of Music Education, and Research Methods in Music Education. She previously taught at the Federal University of Paraná in Curitiba, Brazil (2003-2010) and at the University of Texas at Austin, USA (2010). She has carried out several studies with infants, children and young people in the USA, Brazil, Canada, Japan and Mexico, always with an interdisciplinary focus. Currently, she is an associate researcher at the USC Institute for Brain and Creativity. She has published in renowned journals such as Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, International Journal of Music Education, International Journal of Community Music, and Frontiers in Psychology. She is associate editor of the Perspectives: Journal of the Early Childhood Music & Movement Association (ECMMA), and member of the editorial Boards of Journal of Research in Music Education, Psychology of Music, Musicae Scientiae e Music & Science. Among her most recent books are Children's home musical experiences across the world (Indiana University Press, 2016) and Music in Early Childhood: Multi-disciplinary Perspectives and Inter- disciplinary Exchange’ (Springer, in press), both co-edited with Susan Young (UK).
